The stage was set on Thursday, April 21, when the Louisville Metro Landmarks and Preservation Districts Commission convened at the old jail building downtown to vote on the proposed Individual Landmark designation of the Twig and Leaf restaurant building located at Douglass Loop. Arguments from both sides were heard on the controversial proposal.
Pictured above, Richard T. Jett, a historic preservation officer with the Department of Codes & Regulations Division of Planning and Design Services, outlines the historic significance of the building.
At left, Attorney Glenn A. Price Jr., of Frost Brown Todd, a representative of the property’s owners, the E. Sloane Graff Trust and PNC Bank, attempts to rebut comments by Shellie Nitsche, a supporter of the proposal.
After more than three hours of hearing comments, the commission voted 6-2 in favor of landmarking the historical building.
