B at Speed
March 21 marked the successful launch of the B @ Speed Community Night initiative, organized by Karen Crook of Lexie’s Trading Post, 1745 Bardstown Road.

Held the third Saturday of every month from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the event features late hours and special promotions from shops between Deer Park Baptist Church and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church along Bardstown Road. In April, for example, Asiatique tempted participants with half-price appetizers and $4 martinis, Coco’s Chocolate Cafe offered a half-price dessert special, and Lexie’s Trading Post took $10 off the purchase of $50 or more for the evening.

A treasure hunt for clever clues guides participants to each shop, and monthly questions on Highlands topics stimulate discussion of issues like the Bardstown Road trolley or the reasons for shopping local. Upon collecting all the clues, players enter the prize drawing for the evening. The next month’s poster features the winner’s name and a selection of responses gathered from the Highlands question. Crook envisions these fun, interactive B @ Speed evenings as a timely reminder to “reconnect with your neighbors and find out what your local businesses have to offer.”
