Bourbon Baroque
Bourbon Baroque Pours a Warm Shot of Music from the Past

John Austin Clark and Nicolas Fortin are Louisville’s own twin piques of interest when it comes to exploring and celebrating the timeless beauty of baroque music. After extensive travels performing and teaching, this duo in life – and on stage – make their home in the Original Highlands.

Whether entertaining on their front porch or commanding an orchestral event, Clark and Fortin’s lives are steeped in tradition and engaged in history. Hence the music; hence the bourbon.

On October 9, the beauty of the harpsichord, viola da gamba, traverso, and baroque cello and violin round out the story of “A German in Paris.” Acclaimed oboist and Louisville native Bruce Haynes will lecture on the music and the instrument, while educator and cellist Susie Napper, along with visiting artists Barbara Kallaur and Sarah Biber pour their spirits into Clark and Fortin’s evolving symphonic tour that is Bourbon Baroque.

The timeless grace of this genre will resonate with the dramatic 19th century architecture of St. Joseph Catholic Church, when this gathering of passionate musicologists strikes up the reeds, keys and strings.

Clark teaches at Sacred Heart School for the Arts in the Drama Department, while Fortin, who is originally from Montreal, Quebec, teaches French at Indiana University Southeast.
